UDA Secretary General, Sen. Hassan Omar Hassan has accused sections of Kenya’s mainstream media of abandoning the principles of professional journalism and transforming newsrooms into platforms for partisan political activism aimed at undermining President William Ruto’s administration.
Addressing the media at UDA Headquarters, Hustler Plaza, Sen. Omar faulted media outlets associated with former President Uhuru Kenyatta and KANU Chairman Gideon Moi, as well as senior editors at the Standard Group and Royal Media Services, for what he described as persistent editorial bias, misinformation, sensationalism and politically motivated reporting. He challenged journalists who have crossed into political activism to relinquish their newsroom roles and seek elective office instead of compromising the integrity of the profession.
The Secretary General reaffirmed UDA’s unwavering support for constitutional media freedom while insisting that such freedom must be exercised with accuracy, fairness, objectivity, accountability, and an unwavering commitment to the national interest.
In attendance were former Nairobi City County Governor, Dr. Evans Kidero, UDA National Executive Committee (NEC) Member, Cecilia Wairimu, Party Directors among other leaders.
