President William Ruto’s commitment to address unemployment among the youth took centre stage during the UDA Western Region’s Comrade Chapter in Kakamega.
UDA National Treasurer Japheth Nyakundi and PS Suzan Mang’eni led top party and government officials to explain the various radical measures being undertaken by the government to address unemployment.
The measures include securing jobs abroad, funding youth to actualize their business ideas and availing attachment placements that would eventually lead to absorption.
“My job is to ensure you start a job while still studying. We are training youth from all constituencies in the country in a program that will ensure they come up with a business idea and in partnership with the World Bank give youth aged 19 and 35 years Sh 50,000 grants to actualize their ideas,” said PS Mang’eni.
Public Service Commission provides attachment to local graduates while National Employment Authority Director Joseph Njue and National Housing Corporation Director James Maina announced attachment opportunities that would lead to employment eventually.
Economic Advisor in the Presidential Advisory Council Prof Nyasaki Machuki said President Ruto is taking hard but long-term impactful decisions that will soon see Kenya on the right track.
Other issues of concern addressed by panelists included the affordable housing, the new social health scheme under Social Health Authority (SHA), the new university funding model, among others.
